PONANT EXPLORATIONS has launched an additional Antarctica expedition for 2027.
The 10-night Antarctica: Ocean (Re)Imagined voyage is in collaboration with ocean science organisation Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).
It will depart from Ushuaia in Argentina on 7 December 2027 on Le Lyrial.
The expedition is designed to give guests behind-the-scenes access to expert knowledge and cutting-edge research, providing them with the opportunity to learn about fieldwork methodologies, data collection and the global impact of polar science.
PONANT said it will also ‘reinforce the critical need to protect fragile environments’.
Daily expert-led discussions will cover marine biology, glaciology and climate research. It will also include guided excursions and Zodiac landings.
PONANT EXPLORATIONS Americas Chief Executive Officer Samuel Chamberlain said: “We treat educational travel as more than a tourism niche – it’s a mindset that shapes who we are and how we see the world.
“We are privileged to evolve our partnership with WHOI at a pivotal moment for ocean science, when sustained investment and collaboration are essential to advancing global conservation efforts.”
WHOI VP For Advancement & CMO Sam Harp added: “Antarctica is one of the most important and most vulnerable regions on Earth. By partnering with PONANT EXPLORATIONS, we have a unique opportunity to bring people directly into the heart of polar science, where discovery is happening in real time.
“This voyage is about more than exploration; it’s about connecting guests with the scientists working to understand our changing ocean and connecting that knowledge to the world.”
Le Lyrial has a capacity for 245 passengers in 122 staterooms. Facilities include two restaurants, a spa, theatre and 11 Zodiacs.
