National Geographic-Lindblad begins its first European river expedition

National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has launched its first European river expedition, which departed Belgium on 15 August aboard, Transcend Cruises’ new vessel, Connect.

The brand is a long-standing partnership between Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic, offering high-end, educational expedition cruises across all seven continents.

Constructed in 2025, the 120-guest Connect will sail through Amsterdam, Antwerp, Delft and the Dutch countryside on the ‘Holland & Belgium: Medieval History & Scenic Waterways’ itinerary.

The sailing combines river cruising with expedition-style experiences, including private tours, exclusive tastings and excursions led by National Geographic experts.

Highlights include Amsterdam’s canals, historic towns, windmills and flower-filled landscapes, alongside experiences focused on the region’s art, Jewish history and cuisine.

A second itinerary, ‘Rhine Rivers: Castles, Culture & Culinary Delights’, launches in September.

The itinerary will sail through the Rhine Gorge, calling at Mainz, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Strasbourg and Colmar, with a focus on castles, vineyards, culture and cuisine.

In 2027, sister ship Evolve will join the fleet with a programme of Christmas market sailings.

Lindblad Expeditions Chief Expedition Officer Trey Byus said: “It is an honour to welcome our first guests aboard this inaugural European river expedition, marking an exciting milestone as we bring our experience and expertise to Europe’s waterways.

“This voyage is just the beginning of our expansion in the region, and we look forward to creating even more opportunities for travellers to experience the region through our immersive lens.”
