Etihad unveils $20bn investment in new aircraft and customer experience

Etihad Airways has announced a $20 billion investment in new aircraft and customer experience, including a $1bn fleet retrofit programme.

The airline’s new Airbus A330 will enter service from September 2027, with 15 aircraft joining the fleet over five years, each featuring first, business and economy cabins.

Each first suite (pictured above) will include a 32-inch screen, wireless charging, dedicated compartments and personal stowage, alongside a personal powder station stocked with premium amenities.

Business cabins will offer 24 fully lie-flat seats, all forward-facing with direct aisle access and sliding doors for added privacy. Each seat includes a 17.3-inch screen, wireless and wired charging, a large table and dedicated personal stowage.

Economy will seat 252 passengers, with Etihad’s bespoke fixed-wing headrest, 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens and convenient personal charging. A dedicated ‘extra legroom’ section includes 32 seats with four inches of additional pitch.

Etihad said it is continuing to expand first across the wider fleet through new aircraft and retrofit programmes.

The airline’s transformed Heathrow lounge is due to reopen in summer 2027, with General Manager for the UK and Ireland Jeremy Pollock saying at a media event at The Hoxton, Holborn attended by Indulge: “That matters because premium travel is about confidence and consistency of the whole journey: how guests book; how they’re supported; how they move through the airport; how they connect; the experience they have in the air and how they feel when they arrive.

“Etihad well-being is part of that shift, bringing together quieter cabins, more considered dining and hydration, premium sleep products, skincare, wellness content and spa experiences into one more thoughtful travel proposition.”
